Activities 2006


Iceland, Reykjavik - 29.09.2006

During the year 2006 substantial changes were made in the board of SNSUS as two new member countries joined, Iceland and Finland. The board of SNSUS now represents one member for each of the five Nordic countries.

The new board met for the first time during the international conference on Gambling and Risk Taking at Harrah’s Lake Tahoe, Nevada. In that meeting it was decided to expand the services of SNSUS by offering seminars on gambling and Problem gambling in each of the five Nordic countries.

The first seminar of this kind was held at the University of Iceland on the 29th of September 2006. The seminar was attended by 20 people from the gaming companies, the treatment centre, Ministry of Justice, the university and from self-help groups. The seminar was well received by the attendees and discussions were lively and informative. The program of the seminar is presented below.

Finland, Helsinki - 17.11.2006

SNSUS held a day’s seminar about gambling treatment and research in Helsinki on 17th of October 2006 at the A-clinic Foundation "Gambling in the Nordic Countries. Trends, treatment and adolescence Gambling".  In the seminar there were 22 people from Finnish gambling treatment facilities, gaming companies, government ministries, NGOs, universities and even two from the Institute for Problem Gambling & Treatment in Estonia, Tallinn.
